About Us

The Well Regulated Mind is an educational publishing company founded on the belief that an understanding of child development can lead to more thoughtful learning resources.

Founded by Ashley N. Pettoni, Psy.D., a Georgia licensed psychologist with more than 15 years of experience in pediatric neuropsychology, the company reflects a professional perspective shaped by years of working with children and families across a wide range of developmental and learning profiles.

This experience provided a firsthand perspective on how children acquire new skills, navigate challenges, and develop at different rates. Recognizing an opportunity to bring this knowledge beyond the clinical setting, The Well Regulated Mind was established to translate developmental insights into practical educational materials for everyday learning.

Today, our focus is on creating accessible, engaging resources that reflect both the complexity of child development and the importance of making learning approachable for young children.

Our Approach

At The Well Regulated Mind, we approach educational resource development with careful attention to both the skills being introduced and the experience of the child using them.

Every activity is considered in terms of its purpose, level of difficulty, and the demands it places on a young learner. We prioritize clear instructions, thoughtful organization, and opportunities for children to develop independence as their abilities grow.

Our aim is to create materials that are engaging without being overwhelming, structured without being rigid, and accessible to children with a range of developing abilities.

What We Create

The Well Regulated Mind publishes educational workbooks and resources for young learners, families, and educators.

Our flagship collection, The Developmental Foundations Lab, is an eight-book series exploring essential areas of early childhood development, including pencil control, tracing, visual-motor coordination, spatial awareness, and motor planning.

Each workbook focuses on a distinct set of skills while contributing to a broader collection designed to grow alongside children's developing abilities. Featuring Panda and the Lab Team, the activities offer a friendly, approachable way for children to practice and apply what they are learning.
